Clematis and other garden climbers
Marczyński

In July 2008 the MULTICO Publishing House published "Clematis and other garden climbers" by Szczepan Marczyński

The book contains detailed descriptions of arborescent and perennial garden climbers alike that tolerate Polish climate and are available on the market. Despite their multiple advantages, the majority of them is still little known and rarely encountered in cultivation. Therefore, the main purpose of the publication is to show the wide range of applications of climbers in public greenery, gardens of all sizes, balconies, and anywhere where you want to create a green corner. It will hopefully make choosing a suitable plant and nurturing it easier and thus contribute to the beauty of our surroundings.

The book is meant for all garden and plant lovers, from novices to advanced amateurs, as well as for landscaping designers, nurserymen and plant sellers. Horticulture and landscape architecture students will find here a lot of interesting and valuable information and it should also be of help to people responsible for public greenery.

The guide part of the book contains general information about climbers, as well as some rules and examples concerning their application, their requirements and nurturing. You will find here practical advice on plant and support selection to help you achieve the required effect. It provides instructions on planting, fertilizing, watering, pruning, disease and pest control of climbers growing in the garden or in containers on balconies or terraces. The calendar included at the end of this part will remind you of all the things that need to be done in every particular month.

The catalogue part contains information about various species and cultivars of perennial climbers suitable for Polish climatic conditions. Every entry includes plants characteristics (foliage, flowers, fruit, growth habit, etc.) as well as information about the plant origin and advice on nurturing and applications. You will also find here some information on the botanical terminology. Both parts are richly illustrated; there are photos of all described plants and many stunning examples of climbers growing in a variety of settings to give the reader a better idea about the incredible diversity and potential of these plants.

All the most important characteristics, requirements and applications of the plants described in the book are summarised in two extensive tables, the first one including the clematis cultivars and the second one all the rest of the discussed climbers.
